Some resources suggested power related problem.

I tried various combinations of Linux kernels and NVidia drivers, including the latests ones on arch-linux.

I tried Ubuntu 20.10 which had exactly same issues.

I did some experiments when I tried to install Ubuntu without propertiary GPU drivers, and then manually install Nvidia 'Long Lived' drivers (v450) or 'Short Lived' drivers (v455) in both cases installation completed, but it didn't seem helpful.

I tried to install Manjaro Gnome (kernel 5.6) without success (it froze during installation, then it just didn't boot so I gave up).

I tried to install the other kernels (5.8.14 and 5.9-rc8) by downloading the deb files, running dpkg -i linux*.deb and choosing the other kernel in boot menu installation succeeded but didn't help.

In order to ensure that it works under stress I used Windows for a few hours, including playing Witcher 3 for about half an hour without any problems. Installation succeeded, OS spent a few hours downloading and installing updates, and generally seemed fine.

In order to have some indication whether it can be a hardware issue I installed a Windows 10 Home on the laptop.

Some occurrences seem to correlate with 'Hardware Error' entry in syslog (although I found some very similar entries which didn't seem to trigger the issue).

If it is likely a hardware issue it would be great to have a way to somehow prove it. I spent a few days trying to approach the problem from different angles without any success, and would really appreciate some advice on what avenues are worth further exploration and how. Sometimes immediately after the system starts, sometimes after a few minutes.

The issues happen at random times, first two even during the OS installation.

various things keep crashing (gnome-terminal-server, gnome-session, etc.).

everything freezes (including mouse cursor, ctrl+alt+f1 combination doesn't work), followed by reboot after about 10s.

Oh i just have to say man I I LOVE the packaging! Like Jesus they gave us a soundtrack cd, stickers, a booklet and proper manual like seriously when the last time u see a company give us such awesome package? I miss the good old days of when the game case, manual and art was part of the experience!ДЇelt so good, after waiting for this game for so long to finally get it and then to go through the packaging and booklet while the game installed, to sit and smell that sexy new game smell, to look through the art seriously I miss the old days! Today we barely get a manual any more and for a collector like myself cd project nailed it.I bought a brand new laptop and tried installing Ubuntu 20.04 on it (via bootable usb), however I experience frequent issues which render the system unusable, ie:

I am happy i chose the PS4 version over getting it on my X1, i just dont care at this point digital foundry say about the performance because for me having it run at a smooth 30 mostly and at native 1080p is enough! The seamless open world is crazy that it looks this good and still runs smooth with no load times. My life has gone down the toilet since it launched and i am 20hrs in and allready i can say its my goty and in my top 10 games of all time! The crisp 1080p art is jaw dropping and cdpr should be commended. I just cant get ever how much the game oozes atmosphere. The game is incredible!! Crisp, and smooth, i have had a few frame rate dips but nothing to hinder my experience.

I have the retail disk and have had no issues at all. Not a single crash/freeze, i am curious if people having crashes bought the digital version and as a result some data packets may be missing/corrupted? Been Playing on PS4 and has been flawless !!
